Week 14 Summary (07/12/1920 - 07/18/1920)

Week Fourteen of the 1920 BBW Replay is in the books, and it was another doubleheader-filled week as teams in both leagues are continuing to make up for missed games from earlier in the season. Eleven of the sixteen teams have played eighty games or more, and several are at seventy-nine games played, but Boston (NL) is still dragging behind at only 73 games played. They will reach the 80-games-played mark this coming Sunday, but by then several teams will have passed the 90-games-played mark.

The big news this week is that Chicago (AL) had caught and passed New York (AL) in the AL standings. These two teams are currently playing in New York, with each team having one of the two games played. A doubleheader on Monday and Tuesday is pending for these two teams, but after Tuesday's twin bill, these two teams still have ten games between the two remaining. Chicago leads the AL in hitting, pitching, and fielding, so they are definitely applying the pressure

Cleveland leads the AL in runs scored, but the backend of their rotation continues to be a problem. Regardless, they are making their own charge toward the top. Washington is in fourth place, but shortly they going to lose Walter Johnson for the remainder of the season (sore arm), and due to multiple injuries in the infield they have been forced to activate a coach, George McBride, to take over duties at shortstop for the interim.

There are two Browns players that are currently hitting over .400, George Sisler (.472) and Baby Doll Jacobson (.404). Jacobson has been on a tear recently and has moved into a tie (with Babe Ruth) for the lead in RBI's with 89. Unfortunately for the Browns, their pitching is last in the AL, even with Urban Shocker (16-3, 2.32) and Dixie Davis (10-4, 2.55) heading the staff.

In the NL, New York has been on a bit of a rough patch recently and second-place Cincinnati is only 3.0 games behind them while third-place Brooklyn is only 5.0 games out. It is also worth pointing out that New York and Cincinnati have only played six times so far this season, meaning these two have sixteen contests remaining. Despite the Giants' recent struggles, they still have a better record than any AL team.

Brooklyn would love nothing more than to see New York and Cincinnati take turns pummeling each other so the Robins could potentially maybe slip past both of them in the NL standings. Brooklyn is currently in the middle of a five-game set in Cincinnati having won two of the first three, with two more to go. These two will meet again the following week after Brooklyn returns home, so there are still plenty of fireworks to come out of these three teams.

With teams at the top of each league playing each other it means there are some exciting games coming up this coming week, so let's go play some games.
